PRODUCTION MANAGER

 

Job Title :Flour Mill Production Manager / Head Miller

Reports to:Managing Director

Job Summary (Purpose):

Supervises the overall processes, products, and production personnel in a flour mill from grain intake to packaged loaded trucks with 24 hour/7 days a week operation.

Located in the heart of the NSW wheat belt for 18 years, we pride ourselves on selecting the highest quality grain from multi-generational farming families for milling quality flours and associated specialty products. Our unique milling process allows us to provide specialised service and attention to detail ensuring optimum product performance to meet our individual customers’ needs. 

As we continue to grow, we are expanding our team with several key hires including a Flour Mill Production Manager / Head Miller. This is a critical, hands-on role reporting to the Managing Director of the company. The individual will liaise closely with the senior management team on production requirements and scheduling. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing an effective, efficient, and safe manufacturing operation.

Duties & Responsibilities (Major):

  1. Sets daily production priorities for operators.
  2. Verifies and ensures products are being produced to customer standards.
  3. Supervises flour mill personnel to maintain productivity, plant cleanliness, and overall flour mill performance.
  4. Maintains and improves upon production efficiencies, waste reduction, and process improvements.
  5. Follows, understands, and trains team in all areas of policies and procedures, including quality and production SOPs, safety standards and GMPs.
  6. Ensures required company records and forms are maintained. Reports any defective materials or questionable conditions to plant management and/or maintenance.
  7. Promotes company vision and supports plant culture.
  8. Develop SOPs and PMs for flour mill processes and equipment.
  9. Travel, as necessary, to meet with domestic customers.

Education & Experience (Minimum Required):

  1. Three (3) years of successful experience in a modern industrial facility.
  2. Two (2) years of successful experience in supervision/management, in the food industry, preferably within milling
  3. Four (4) year Milling or Engineering degree from an accredited college or university preferred, combination of education and demonstrated work experience will substitute.
  4. Implementation & Maintenance of HACCP:2000 & AS/NZS ISO 9001:2008 Systems.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Desired):

  1. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  2. Strong work ethic, attention to detail and quality focus.
  3. Management experience especially supervisory and team building skills. Must have the ability to engage and influence internal stakeholders, particularly direct reports.
  4. Must have excellent mechanical aptitude and strong math skills.
  5. Able to work with hand tools and make operational adjustments to equipment.
  6. Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  7. Able to communicate effectively with customers, visitors, and team members.
  8. Understanding of PLCs and pneumatic systems.
  9. Experienced in food safety audits.

Physical Demands (Typical):

  1. Standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and kneeling occasionally.
  2. Close visual work on PC and controls; determine detail, able to distinguish colours.
  3. Able to wear required PPE.
  4. Work extended shifts and weekends as needed.
  5. Climb to various levels in the facility using ladders and able to work in confined spaces.
  6. Able to drive a forklift. A heavy vehicle licence would be an advantage.

Work Environment (Typical):

  1. Plant production areas; including inside and outside the plant; are not air-conditioned. Uneven walking surfaces. Work on top and inside of bins, which are approximately 18m high.
  2. Exposure to dust, and industrial noise associated with truck loading and unloading and working within a facility with high-powered milling equipment.
